How to use Backpack Wallet
What is a Backpack Wallet?
Backpack is a user-friendly, Solana native crypto wallet. Built for both beginners and more experienced users. It allows you to have full custody over your funds and makes receiving, sending and swapping your crypto easy.
Key features:
- Support for 10 different blockchains as of writing this, including Solana, Ethereum, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, Base, Sonic and many more.
- Built-in apps, Backpack allows you to use some platforms right in the app instead of having to visit their website which makes it easier and safer for users.
- Simple cross chain swaps, you can easily swap from one type of crypto to another without having to use extra tools.
How to get started:
- Download the Backpack extension or app depending on what device you are using.
- Open the extension/app
- (select the wallet button if you are using a mobile)
- Select “create a new wallet
- Choose your preferred network ( you can add extra networks later down the line if needed)
- (set up a password if you are on desktop)
- Click on the security warning
- Read through all the information and make sure to follow these tips in the next step
- Write down your recovery phrase by hand and store it in a secure location. Losing your recovery phrase means you can not access that wallet again and can result in a loss of funds. NEVER SHARE YOUR RECOVERY PHRASE
- Answer the questions after saving it and you are finished, you can now start using your newly set up wallet
What’s next?
Deposit some crypto to your new wallet to start exploring its features.
- Find the receive button on your screen and copy your wallet address.
- Go to the app/website of the exchange you are using and find the currency you want to send to your new wallet.
- (make sure you are depositing the right currency to your wallet or you could lose your funds, you will find a note in your Backpack wallet where you copied the address at the bottom)
- Now find the withdraw button on your exchange and paste your Backpack wallet address to finish the transaction
- You have now deposited your first bit of crypto to your new wallet
You are now ready to start exploring the things you can do with your crypto, below you will find a few basic guides on what you could try next.
- Swap to other tokens
- Go to the swap icon at the bottom of your screen
- In the receive part you can find a button to select what currency you would like to swap to (will show USDC at first)
- Here you can look for any token you want as long as it is on the same blockchain as the coin you initially deposited to your wallet
- Select the amount you would like to swap for and execute the swap when you have checked that everything is correct
Manage your NFTs
- Under the collectibles tab you will be able to find NFTs if you decide to buy any
- Managing them is very straightforward, you can click on them, and you will find a button to either send them to another wallet or list them for sale
- Below the buttons you can find all the info about your NFT
Connect to external websites
- Go to the explore tab, here you can search for the application you need by either going to the website or looking for the app in your wallet if it is integrated.
- Within these apps/sites you will find a “connect” button, click on it and look for Backpack in the options
- Approve the transaction that pops up, this is free and does not expose you to any risks
- Your wallet is now connected to the app/site and you are free to interact with it however you would like.
